About KREM
The idea for the KREM Radio station originated in early 1979 while Rufus X and I were visiting New Orleans. There was a New Orleans deejay I liked, by the name of Sister Love, and one day Rufus and his cousin, Sam Wiley, who was our host, showed me the building where the radio station which featured Sister Love was located. It was quite a modest, one flat structure, much smaller than the three story Albert Cattouse Building from where the Belize government monopoly station – Radio Belize – was broadcasting.

  1. Sexual violence is a pervasive yet largely ignored violation of human rights that appears to be plaguing the country of Belize recently. As a Sex Offender Treatment Specialist and Licensed Mental Health Counselor in order to address the aspects of the rise in offenders there has to be a clear understanding of what makes a person offend. This is conceptualized by learning about the decisions that brought the offender/perpetrator to commit the sexual act. Every offender is highly individualized and there is no underlying factor that CAUSES someone to become an offender, as there are many factors and
thinking styles as it relates to an offender and their offenses. Every case is different as in the case of Bert Vazquez but there have been no reports of him even being evaluated by a professional for him to be deemed a sex offender. Getting into the mind of the persons that commit sexually violent acts is what will yield the ultimate goal of preventing the abuse of future victims and provide safety for past and current victims. What is being done about the Belize being educated about “the mind of the sex offender”.

These comments are on the mark and echo some thoughts i had been having although i don’t have the expertise you appear to. lashing out in anger at the perpetrators may afford a certain emotional release, which is understandable. but if the goal is truly to prevent this type of suffering we need to look at a lot of aspects of society, including so called public moral standards and what is considered even fit speech and images to expose children to and to display in public arena as well as the issue of what really is happening in the mind of the one who arrives at the point of committing these grevious offenses. thank you for your perspective. a concerned mother.
